Early Stage

1-8 weeks after exposure. Often mistaken for the flu.

  • Fatigue and fever
  • Muscle aches (thighs, back)
  • Headache and chills
  • Dizziness
  • Abdominal pain

Late Stage

4-10 days after initial phase. Requires immediate medical care.

  • Coughing and shortness of breath
  • Fluid in lungs (Pulmonary edema)
  • Chest tightness
  • Low blood pressure
  • Reduced heart efficiency

Transmission

How the virus spreads from rodents to humans.

  • Aerosolized rodent droppings
  • Direct contact with saliva/urine
  • Rodent bites (rare)
  • Contaminated food/surfaces
  • Dust in enclosed spaces
