Early Stage
1-8 weeks after exposure. Often mistaken for the flu.
- Fatigue and fever
- Muscle aches (thighs, back)
- Headache and chills
- Dizziness
- Abdominal pain
Late Stage
4-10 days after initial phase. Requires immediate medical care.
- Coughing and shortness of breath
- Fluid in lungs (Pulmonary edema)
- Chest tightness
- Low blood pressure
- Reduced heart efficiency
Transmission
How the virus spreads from rodents to humans.
- Aerosolized rodent droppings
- Direct contact with saliva/urine
- Rodent bites (rare)
- Contaminated food/surfaces
- Dust in enclosed spaces
